Winter Sleep A/U: Ruby Rose

Ruby Rose: 27

After losing Weiss, at the age of 17, Ruby fell into a deep depression. She had several falling outs with her older sister, Yang, over her depression and while on a mission, Ruby failed to notice Yang, and accidently stabbed her own sister in the chest. Eventually she pushed everyone away from her, fearing no good will come from her being leader. She was afraid her leadership was inadequate, despite Ozpin’s encouragement, and felt her desires to be a Huntress were no longer strong enough to keep her going (as Weiss’s death and Yang’s injury were constant on her mind) and promptly dropped out of Beacon. After doing a bit of soul searching, and walking over the corpses of thousands of Grimm, Ruby returned to Beacon a year later to complete her “offical” training. She made up with Yang, but still had a rather rocky relationship with her. Ruby became a little hardened and less empathetic towards her once-called friends and spent most of her time in the libraries of Beacon. She forged a pretty strong relationship with Gylinda due to unfortunate circumstances, and never spoke to Yang on personal levels anymore. Blake was not in Beacon when she returned.

One day, after coming home from a scouting mission, Ruby decided on coffee and discovered she had a “glyph” on the palm of her hand (when the cup went soaring out of her hand and into the wall).  At the time, Ruby didn’t understand how deeply she felt for Weiss until she saw the mark and cried for hours before confronting Yang about it. Yang was under the impression Ruby was insane and denied Weiss was alive. Ruby refused to believe it, called the glyph a sign, and proceeded to begin a long, arduous search for her former friend. Ruby incorporated the glyph-having the Air Step ability attached to it combined with her semblance- into her training and soon became the fastest and deadliest Huntress in Vale. She would spend sleepless nights (resulting in near permanent bags under her eyes) going over every map of the region, hoping to pinpoint the location they last saw Weiss, but due to constant distractions and missions, she was forced to put her search on hold every few weeks or so. The war was getting bad and there seemed like no time to search for Weiss, but she didn’t give up. Five years later (5 years after the war broke out), she finally found the evidence she needed to convince Yang to come with her to find Weiss. Her plans are derailed when Blake returns to Vale, branded as a traitor and thrown in prison. Ruby was so disconnected from the real world that she didn’t even know Blake went rouge. She didn’t want to put her mission of finding Weiss on hold and told Blake she’d have to ask Weiss for forgiveness and then explained her plans to them both. All though sceptical at first, Yang and Blake both agreed to travel with her to the mountains where they, after searching for weeks, finally found Weiss.

She still gets shit for practically wearing the same outfit design she wore in her teens. No, she doesn’t give a fuck. Ruby still enjoys a good strawberry once in a while and has a taste for black coffee and tends to forget to cut her hair, leaving it a mess. She can spend almost 4 days without sleep, and if someone doesn’t remind her, she’ll forget to eat.

Story:

Winter Sleep is an alternate universe centered around the RWBY team dealing with a ten year long war between the Grimm/White Fang and Hunters and Huntresses, losing/finding Weiss and general bonding. There will be various pairings, but is primarily White Rose. The leader coordinating the attacks for the Grimm and White Fang will remain unknown. General information about the A/U will gradually be released whenever I get around to writing them down and dealing with the massive story behind it.
